Have a Drink For Early Spring

Spring WinesSpring has sprung and that makes April the perfect time to start enjoying the outdoors. Pack a picnic basket, head to the park, and spread out a comfy blanket for a lunch of bold artisan cheeses; cold, sweet fruits; and, of course, a bottle of wine.

Pair those stronger cheese flavors with white, sparkling, and rose wines for a refreshing but balanced lunch you can enjoy with that special someone or alone with a fantastic novel.

Need some pairing suggestions to make that picnic a springtime sensation? Try firm red grapes with goat cheese, tart apples, bread crisps, and a bottle of 2010 Cloudy Bay - Riesling Marlborough. While Rieslings make excellent dessert wines, they also pair delightfully with the balanced blend of a creamy cheese and fruit platter.

Of course, some prefer Chablis with a spring cheese plate, and for them, we recommend the 2010 Christian Moreau Père & Fils – Chablis.

Always a perfect accompaniment to stronger tastes, this Chablis is refreshing and enjoyable on its own but really shows its true flavors when paired with a bold cheese. Consider a warmed Brie with a strawberry spread to make it a memorable day among the daisies.

All of these selections will pair well with that perfect spring day.

2003 de Ladoucette - Pouilly-Fumé Baron de L

The largest and most famous Pouilly-Fumé vineyards have been in the hands of the Comte Lafond and Ladoucette families since 1787 when the Comte Lafond purchased the estate from the illegitimate daughter of the French king, Louis XV. The estate is now owned by Baron Patrick de Ladoucette, a descendant of the Comte Lafond, and Pouilly Fumé has earned a reputation as one of the world%u2019s great white wines. The Baron de L is widely considered to be the best Pouilly Fumé available. This Grande Cuvée of Pouilly Fumé is produced exclusively in the best years and from the first pressing of the estate%u2019s grapes. The wine is matured on natural lees from three to six months, followed by the blending of the wines from the two main soils. The wine is then left to rest on the lees in glass tiled vats for eight to ten months. 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The colour is pale gold with green tints. The nose is delicate with ripe fruit such as pear and white peach. It also has complex notes of beeswax, vanilla and flint. The mouth has a fresh fruity beginning, is fleshy and robust, and has good structure. It is balanced between a fruity roundness and mineral firmness. A very long finish. Will gracefully age over the next 8 to 10 years.
