Buitenverwachting’s vineyards are located on the east-facing slopes of the Constantiaberg, a mere 12km from False Bay. The farm originally formed part of the Constantia Estate, which was founded by Simon van der Stel, the first Governor of the Cape. The Husseys Vlei parcel is characterized by deep red Tukulu soils, a form of decomposed granite. Named for the American heiress who owned the property in the early to mid 1900s, this dry farmed plot was first planted in 1999. The single vineyard Husseys Vlei Sauvignon Blanc made its debut in the 2003 vintage.
