Description:
Cloudy Bay Te Koko 2019 is a sophisticated and unique expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, showcasing the surprising flavors and hidden depths of the variety. It is crafted from four prime vineyard parcels, fermented with wild yeasts, and aged in French oak barrels. The nose of Te Koko 2019 is nuanced, featuring citrus, stone fruits, and savoury notes of soft woodsmoke. On the palate, the wine offers a layered experience with mellow oak and mineral characters, balanced by vibrant acidity and freshness of citrus and conference pear. The wine is dense, powerful, and has a long and elegant finish, embodying Cloudy Bay's character, terroir, and winemaking philosophy.
Te Koko undergoes fermentation in French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts and ages on fine lees for 15 months before blending and maturation in Cloudy Bay's cellars. The wine is sourced from older vines planted on the floor of the Wairau Valley, benefiting from the warm, free-draining gravelly soils of the Motukawa, Widow's Block, Estate, and Brook Street vineyards. The 2019 growing season experienced an early budburst, cool weather during flowering resulting in lower yields, and warm, dry conditions until harvest. The winemaking process involves gentle pressing, settling, slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts, aging in French oak barrels and large format wooden cuves, and careful maturation in stainless steel, concrete tanks, and large format wooden cuves.
Cloudy Bay recommends pairing Te Koko 2019 with dishes such as Chinese-style crispy pork belly, vibrant spicy dishes, or smoked salmon.
Te Koko 2019 has a total acidity (TA) of 7 g/L, alcohol content of 13.09%, pH of 3, and residual sugar (RS) of 3.18 g/L. |
